Genre Database Entry

Genre- Drama

Genre Conventions [content]- Drama’s genre conventions are that it portrays real life situations with realistic characters, a realistic plot and a realistic setting. Usually, the character's journey is portrayed and their social interactions/ life that advance the film's climax(es). This aids in the audience's emotional response which tends to make the film relatable since it maintains tension throughout. The base of a drama is the conflict, which include interior and exterior hardships or struggles. There are copious amount of times when a Drama has broken the habit of having a happy ending, that being said it is habitual for this genre to have this form of realization.

Genre's Target Audience- Drama’s main audience is women ranging from age 17 to 50. Although it could have a wide age range depending on the story. It has a wider target audience than other genres because people can relate to it more. Due to the variety of characters and plot/ sub plot lines.

Genre Conventions [production technique]- Production techniques such as lighting, ambient/ environmental sound, music, and special effects used to develop understanding of characterization, setting and conflict. Visual techniques such as acting, gesture and visuals with the use of props. Transitional scenes utilized for structure support and format.

Film Example #1- Titanic is a film that breaks one of the Drama's conventions because it does not have a happily ever after ending. It is based on a true story, which takes place on a grand English passenger liner in 1912. Throughout the entire movie there are a series of climaxes, each one escalating more as the film progresses. It is known for this film to be the most popular, the most watched, and the most spoken about because of it's two main love interests: Jack and Rose. Although, there love is relatable to a certain point in the story (because I don't think everyone can say they've lost their loved one in a catastrophic boat wreck that made a watershed in the history of everything).

Film Example #2-  The Notebook is a film in which the two main characters are in love but have been separated for numerous years because the girl's family has a subtle disagreement with the guy. It is set  in a small town where in that time, when the movie is taken place, it was all about living a life wth status and marrying someone with status. This is relatable because although it is 2018 many people's families or personal desires demand that. This film does follow the general convention for happy endings which stimulates the positive emotion the audience was battling with the entirety of the film because the romantic and sensual tension that was awaited and cherished.

Introduction

Bonjour, je m'appelle Camila Castillo. This blog is being started not only for a class but because I have always wanted to launch one and write about the topics that I am absolutely passionate about (as soon as the class and it's assignments are over). I'd love to document information that fascinates me and I know interests many other people, because many have done this as well. A blog can open a sense of creativity with writing, share wonderful stories, and can be a wonderful remembrance of moments when looking back at it.

It will probably be full in no time because of all withheld in my head (and the class assignments). Fashion, cooking, film, languages and music are hopefully going to be portrayed throughout this entire blog. I'm excited to see how it'll turn out, if I grew in knowledge of my interests and if it becomes a known blog. If it doesn't that's ok, I'll just keep it for myself! :)

J'espère que vous aimez mes publications, a toute a l'heure <3
